General Catalyst Leads October US Startup Funding with $5.1 Billion in Deals

October proved to be a highly active month for U.S. startup funding, driven by prominent venture capital firms deploying substantial capital into major deals, according to a report by Crunchbase News. General Catalyst claimed the top spot as the month's busiest lead dealmaker, leading the market across both round counts and aggregate financial volume.

Among venture investors leading rounds, General Catalyst paced the field by leading at least nine known rounds. Lightspeed Venture Partners followed closely behind with eight lead rounds, while Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz each secured seven deals during the month.

When measured by aggregate round value, General Catalyst again led all competitors, steering rounds collectively valued at $5.1 billion. The largest driver of this capital deployment was a $2.1 billion financing for Re:Build, a startup collaborating with manufacturers for product design and production. This was complemented by a $2 billion Series A round for Axiom Solutions International, a cloud and power infrastructure spinout originating from manufacturing provider Flex.

Other heavy spenders included J.P. Morgan Asset Management, which co-led the Re:Build financing alongside General Catalyst. Koch Equity followed as a major market participant by co-leading the Axiom deal, alongside the five co-lead investors involved in fintech unicorn Ramp's $1.9 billion Series G round.

When examining broader participation metrics encompassing total venture rounds of $5 million or more, Y Combinator maintained its customary position as the busiest overall investor by round count through its ongoing support of program alumni. Andreessen Horowitz participated in at least 22 qualifying rounds to rank next, followed by General Catalyst with 17 total round participations.

While October's deal activity did not match the historic mega-financings earlier in the year recorded by entities like OpenAI and Anthropic, the broader metrics point to a healthy and upbeat startup funding environment. Venture capitalists demonstrated a continued willingness to write substantial checks across multiple sectors and stages.
