Siggy Lands $6M Pre-Seed to Bring AI-Driven Monitoring to Mental Health

Siggy, a New York-based mental health startup, has secured $6 million in pre-seed financing. The company, which is currently testing its service with paying patients ahead of a public launch, aims to bridge the gap between clinical appointments using AI-driven patient monitoring. The round was led by Village Global, with participation from a syndicate of repeat investors including Albert Wenger of Union Square Ventures, Mercury CEO Immad Akhund, and Cityblock Health co-founder Toyin Ajayi. The capital will be deployed to expand engineering and clinical teams, refine the platform's software, and navigate the regulatory requirements inherent in a healthcare-focused startup.

The deal is driven by the pedigree of its co-founders, both of whom have exited or scaled significant healthcare ventures. Jonathan Sabbagh co-founded Journey Clinical, a platform supporting ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, while Edvard Engesæth co-founded Nurx, the online birth control provider that eventually merged with Thirty Madison in 2022. According to Crunchbase News, the duo has been considering a joint venture for years. Their combined experience in navigating the complexities of telehealth—specifically in the regulatory-heavy sectors of medication prescription and patient management—appears to be the primary signal for investors in this early-stage round.

Siggy’s core premise targets the fragmentation of current mental healthcare, where patients often encounter long gaps between appointments with their prescribing clinicians. To address this, the startup utilizes AI to conduct daily check-ins regarding sleep, mood, and medication side effects. By integrating data from wearables like Whoop, Oura, and the Apple Watch, the system generates a "Siggy Score," which alerts clinicians to potential shifts in a patient's condition. While AI-driven health monitoring is a crowded space, the founders emphasize that their system is designed to provide clinicians with a more granular history, rather than replacing the human element of care.

Unlike many venture-backed digital health startups that prioritize direct-to-consumer cash payments, Siggy is positioning itself within the insurance ecosystem. The company currently accepts commercial insurance across all 50 states and is actively expanding into government-backed programs. Amrit Rao, a general partner at Village Global, highlighted this strategic choice as a critical component of the investment thesis. By building an insurance-based model, Siggy is attempting to solve for accessibility, a pivot from the high-margin, boutique mental health apps that have struggled to gain traction in broader health systems.

The funding round arrives as the venture market continues to scrutinize the efficacy and sustainability of AI-integrated healthcare platforms. While the founders assert that the platform is not a crisis service and will not prescribe controlled substances, the challenge remains in proving that automated monitoring actually improves clinical outcomes rather than simply generating more data for already overburdened providers. The company’s next phase will be critical: testing the service with paying patients to determine if the "Siggy Score" provides actionable insights that insurers are willing to reimburse, or if it becomes another layer of digital noise in the mental health stack.
